Comeragh Mountains

The Comeragh Mountains

The Comeragh Mountains - a landscape shaped by glaciers, hosts one of the most magnificient coums in all of Ireland, Coumshinaun.

While this is the most talked about of the corrie lakes, there are plenty more to discover which are  equally stunning yet more secluded.

A popular route often combines a visit to the impressive Mahon Falls, one of Ireland's highest waterfalls, with a climb up Knocknaunapeebra, offering panoramic vistas of Coum Mahon and the Copper Coast.

For a more challenging trek, consider an ascent of Knockanaffrin (792m), which rewards hikers with extensive views across the Comeraghs, Galtees, Knockmealdowns  and even the Blackstairs on a clear day.

Knockmealdown Mountains

The Knockmealdown Mountains

The Knockmealdown Mountains offer a gentler, yet equally rewarding hiking experience.

A challenging but stunning hike leads to the summit of Knockmealdown (794m), providing expansive views across counties Waterford and Tipperary. Many routes in this range include to a visit of the serene Bay Lough, a corrie lake steeped in local folklore and surrounded by a sea of rhododendrons.

For a more challenging option, a circuit taking in the summit of Knockshanhullion (755m) can be undertaken, traversing sections of  historic "Waymarked Ways" – long-distance trails that crisscross the range like St. Declan's or the East Munster Way.

Galtee Mountains

The Galtee Mountains

For avid hikers, scaling Galtymore (919m), Munster's highest peak, presents a worthy challenge with several ascent options ranging from moderate to strenuous.

A less demanding yet very scenic path leads to Lake Muskry, situated in a glacial corrie beneath the summits of Greenane and Cnoc na gCapall.
Another enjoyable trail climbs to the top of Temple Hill (793m), offering superb vistas of Galtymore and the surrounding landscape, probably offering the best views of the Galtees range from it's summit.

Useful information

Is the hike for me?

Hikes are graded according to fitness level required. This is to ensure that you select the right outing and  enjoy your day. If you are unsure, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me and I am happy to give advise.

All fitness level (Grade 1) - hikes that are on paths with a mostly gentle incline and a few short steeper sections. The duration is about 2-4 hours and up to 10 km in lenght and 100 to 300 meters ascend.

Moderate fitness level (Grade 2) - hikes are mostly on paths or tracks. Some longer steep sections will be encountered. Hike duration 4-5 hours and up to 12 km in length and 300 to 500 meters ascend.

Good fitness level (Grade 3) - hikes are often off the beaten track and there can be sections that are rough underground.  There will be quite some height gain on the day. Hike duration 4-16 hours and 12+ km in length and over 500 meters ascend.

Q: What experience level is required for your tours?

A: Natureled's hikes and walks cater to a wide range of experience levels, from beginner to advanced hikers. All public hikes are graded to give you an idea if the hike is right for your - please refer to the "Hiking Grades" section.

On our custom hikes, the routes and pace are tailored to the requirenments of our clients. We will discuss this in our initial outline conversation.

Q: What should I bring on the hike?

Please check the "what to bring" section . There you will find a comprehensive list of equipment.

Q: Can I customize a hike?

A: Yes, we can customize hikes and walks to meet your specific needs and interests. For example - a hike around flora and fauna or history. Please contact us to discuss your preferences.

This excludes public hikes and walks. But I am happy to hear your input and might offer a public hike with your preferences in the future.

Q: What is the typical group size?

A: Group sizes are generally kept small (max 12 people) to ensure a personalized experience and a lower environmental impact. Group sizes also depend on the grade of the hike with smaller groups on more strenuous hikes.

The same applies to custom hikes. Bookings for lager groups will require additional guides to ensure everyone's safety. This will be discussed on an individual basis

A: Participants need to be at least 18 years old. Younger children and teenagers may be allowed on certain tours, but parental supervision is required. This does not apply to school tours and camps.

Q: What is the refund policy?

A: Me and all guides on the hikes are trained in first aid and carry a well-stocked first-aid kit. However, it's important to be prepared and bring any necessary medications with you.
